The Lord’s Prayer is So Old Testament
The Lord's Prayer is an Old Testament prayer.
You know the story. Jesus' disciples came to him and asked, "Lord, teach us how to pray," and he responded with what we call the Lord's Prayer. But did you ever consider the fact that Jesus was sent to the Jews (Matthew 15:24), and he was speaking to disciples who were Jews?
When Jesus answered his disciples’ question, he answered in context. The Torah (the Jewish law) was still in effect and it was proper for Jews to pray according to it. Take a look at John 15:24. There, Jesus is about to offer himself on the cross and he revisits the question of prayer and announces a new way to pray based on the work of his crucifixion and resurrection.
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
Still don't believe me? Let me show you just how grounded the Lord's Prayer is in the Torah (Old Testament).
